As we are at the beginning of the Chinese New Year of the Snake, I am inspired to share my experiences and understanding of the art of mastering the element Fire. The spiritual aspects of Snakes and Fire have been intertwined in many ancient cultures around the world. We see in the bible that Jesus advises his disciples to be as wise as snakes as they walk amongst the deceptive wolves in sheep clothing. In ancient teachings from India, Egypt and Meso-America, the snake symbolizes the energy of divinity and enlightenment. In India, Shiva the divine aspect of Consciousness is depicted as garlanded with snakes, Buddha as well is depicted as being overshadowed and protected by serpents. In both disciplines, the Goddess Kundalini is depicted as a fiery snake, she represents the incarnated divine force of enlightenment and transformation and mastery through light and fire. We are being asked to embrace the fire element within ourselves and transmute all residual spiritual restrictions, limiting mental patterns of behavior and emotional bloodline conditioning. We are also being asked to prepare our physical body, through these transformations, to become the sacred receptacle for the highest expression of our personal divine energy. How do we do that?
